Essay instructions:

Essay Prompt:

You are to write an essay that analyzes President Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points speech.  Your argument in your essay will be related to how you think the Fourteen Points impacted peacemaking in Europe after WWI.   The best essays will include specific citations to the speech that help the argument being made.  However, direct citations to the text are not required.

Reminder:

If you are going to use specific text from any resource, MAKE SURE THAT  YOU INCLUDE CITATIONS.  If you do not include citations, you are plagarizing and any plagarism will result in a zero.  We can go over this in more detail when we give feedback on drafts.

Feedback in class:

We will spend the class period two days before the final draft is due giving feedback on your essays.  By this day of class, you will need to have submitted a copy of your draft to me online through our course site.  This is how I am going to give you feedback which along with your peer feedback will compose part of your essay grade.

Structure of essay:

It is important for you to lay out a map for the rest of your paper in your introduction paragraph.  Also, please type your ARGUMENT/THESIS sentence in BOLD TYPE (this will count as points towards your grade so do not forget to do it!!)

-You should list your three main points (at least) that relate to your argument in the order that you are going to discuss them later in your essay

-You should have a paragraph corresponding to each main point

-You also need a conclusion paragraph, this should summarize the rest of your essay but should also include some new insight as far as your argument is concerned

-Make sure that you are focusing on making your point & stay on topic!

-Proofread your paper.  Spell check is your friend!!  Points will be given or taken depending on the spelling and grammar used in your essay.

Don't forget to read over the rubric before submitting your final draft of your essay!!
